Surface Mounted Tactile Adhesive

Surface Mounted Tactile Paving SystemsThe tactile range of adhesive has been specifically developed by J&A Stevenson for boding the tiles to a variety of substrates. The adhesive outperforms all other tactile fixing systems available today in terms of strength, durability and cost.

  • Colour matched to the tile,
  • Simple to mix,
  • Easy to apply,
  • Fast curing,
  • High bond strengh,
  • Moisture tolerant version available for application in damp conditions, which etends the laying season and accommodates inclement weather conditions.

Surface Mounted Tactile Paving SystemsThe Surface mounted tactile system has been extensively tested to improve performance. This testing has been carried out using controlled conditions at a fully equipped laboratory and independently verified during numerous trials at locations throughout the UK

  • The specifically formulated adhesive has been tested for adhesion by J&A Stevenson.
  • Tensile tests were performed and the failure mode for the vast majority of the test samples was within the base substrate.*
  • Skid Resistance Value (SRV). Tested using the pendulum test and values of up to 75 SRV were achieved. This out performs concrete at 50 SRV and even anti-skid surfaces which are only rated to 65 SRV.
  • Wear tested for durability and found to far out to perform concrete*
  • UV tested for colorfast properties*
  • Freeze/Thaw tested*
  • Manufactured to strict QA Criteria*

Off Street/Platform Edge Warning System – Surface Mounted Tactile Systems

The Off Street/Platform Edge profile has been designed to cater for the growing demands of DDA Compliance within the rail network.

It has been widely adopted and approved throughout the network as it offers:-

  • Fast Installation – 120 linear metres in 4 hours.
  • No excavation – most stations do not have access for heavy plant – no noise issues.
  • Adheres to most surfaces i.e. Concrete, Tarmac, Terrazzo, Wood, Metal, Marble, Ceramic and Bitumen.

Segregated Shared Cycle Track/Footway Surface

As illustrated in the image, The Segregated Shared Cycle Profile has been fitted to an existing footway without the need for excavation this minimizing disruption and labour costs.

The purpose of the tactile surface used in conjunction with a segregated shared cycle track/footway is to advise visually impaired people of the correct side to enter.

Tactile Systems

The Blister Surface is available as red for controlled crossings and buff for uncontrolled crossings.

In both 400 x 400mm and 450 x 450mm sizes and as illustrated in the images offers the following benefits:-

  • No heavy duty plant was used.
  • No excavation was required.
  • Both these crossings were completed in less than 2 hours, keeping pedestrian and traffic management to a minimum.
  • No cracking – reduces trip hazard.
  • Hard wearing, more durable than concrete.
  • Skid resistance value (SRV) tested and found to be far higher than concrete.
  • Ultra violet (UV) tested for colour fade.
  • Specially formulated adhesive, which bonds to most surfaces.

The purpose of The Blister Surface is to provide a warning to visually impaired people who would otherwise in the absence of the kerb upstand less than 25mm high, find it difficult to defferentiate between where the footway ends and the carriageway begins. The surface is therefore an essential safety feature for this group of road users at pedestrian crossing points, where the footway is flush with the carriageway to enable wheelchair users to cross unimpeded.

Hazard Warning Surface

The Hazard Warning Profile has been designed to comply fully with the Disability Discrimintion Act (DDA) 2004 and as illustrated offers the following benefits;

  • Using the specially formulated two part adhesive enables the tile to adhere to virtually any surface ie; Concrete, Tarmac, Terrazzo, Wood, Metal, Marble and Ceramic.
  • No excavation was required, particularly crucial at sites where DDA compliance is an issue.
  • Fast and clean installation means that these projects were carried out with minimal disruption and in a cost effective manner.
  • Skid Resistance Value (SRV) tested and found to outperform anti slid surfaces. (Details available on request)The purpose of The Corduroy Surface is to warm visually impaired people of the presence of specific hazards; steps, level crossings or the approach to on street light rapid transport (LRT) Platforms. It is also used where a footway joins a shared route, It conveys the message Hazard proceed with caution
